What cartridge is the factory 32 cal. center fire for old Marlin Model 1892.? Sorry, JD. You're off on this one, old man. Not often, but this once, you are. Marlin .32 Centerfire is .32 Long Colt, NOT .32-20. A .32-20 will not chamber nor fire in a Marlin 1892 .32 Centerfire. Rounds that will work in the 1892 .32 Centerfire include .32 Short Colt, .32 Short, .32 SCF, .32 and .320 Webley, .32 Long Colt, .32 LR etc. The cartridge you seek is a 32 long colt center fire round. The Marlin 1892 lever action rifle ,also had the capability to fire not only .32 long colt center-fire cartridge, but with a simple change of firing pin, the same gun would fire .32 short colt "rim-fire" ammunition...Pretty unique for any gun of that period. They were well made rifles but due to design flaws they couldn't offer larger calibers because the receiver design simply could not handle the gas pressures of bigger caliber cartridges. Ammunition is still available now in limited runs. Gunsmith/Gunshop Owner/Collector/Appraiser 29 years experience |
