Ice skating? Plz help?

OK look i just moved 2 alaska from hawaii and i don't know how 2 ice skate but all my friends do
it looks really fun so i wanna learn how 2 skate but i don't wanna take lessons with 3 year olds that r better then me already!

First of all just want to say what a huge jump from Hawaii to Alaska!!

There are online ice skating sites . . . general instruction, tips, videos. You can read up about it and "try" . . . but the best way to really "learn" - and learn faster - is by taking lessons. It's one thing to be able to "do" skating, but it's better if you do the moves correctly - especially if you want to advance.

Here are some "beginner" sites:

If you decide to take group lessons (and it sounds like you're not anywhere near age 3) - don't worry - they don't group you with the real little ones. They have tots classes for that age (less than school age) - then there are classes for "children", "older kids", teens, and even adults!. But it depends on how the rink splits their classes.

You can take private lessons with a coach, which would be more expensive, but it's possible if you can afford it.

Check out your nearest rink - it wouldn't hurt to see what they offer! They probably have a class in your age range!

If anything, just rent a pair of skates and go out there and go for it!! You can get a feel for it and see how you like it!! You are in good company with friends . . . maybe they can be helpful in starting you off!!

Have fun skating!!!!!!!!!!!
well I'll try my best to explain how to.

You have to point your toes slightly away from where you want to go to push off. (I mean your left foot needs to face slighty left of straight and the opposite for the right foot)
You should always lean forward a little, in such a way that if you were to fall you'll fall forward not backward(you can't stop falling backwards very well). You then just have to push perpendicularily to the direction the foot you are pushing with is facing. You alternate feet when doing this. The harder you push the faster you'll go. To slow down, for now just glide or try to grip something. This is the best description I can really give you without pictures. I appologize if this doesn't work.
A Hawaaiian teen moves to Alaska and learns to ice skate...sounds like a Disney movie in the making...I think you'll have a good case if you sue them for stealing your story!

Your friends are your friends for a reason. They know where you came from and SHOULD understand that you've never had the opportunity to ice skate before moving. Go skating with them and try it out a few times. If you really like it, sign up for group lessons. The skating school will put you in a group with other kids your age (within 2-3 years) and skating level.

Tips:
Wear warm, comfy clothes and gloves, plus a helmet until you get used to skating. Get skates that are your correct size and wear just one pair of thin socks. Tie the skates tightly so your feet and ankles aren't floppy.

GOOD LUCK and start working on your screenplay ;-)
let your friends teach you. if they took lessons they can teach you the way someone taught them.
At the rinks around me they have the ages split up with ages 8& up in one class and 7& under in a seperate class so that you are with kids your age. You could also ask your friends how to teach you to skate. Good luck!
Figure Skater
listen, i take my private ice skating lessons with like a couple of girls who are younger and better than me by being there for 7 weeks more than me and i don't care! all i care is that i learn the sport smoothly! who cares if you are with little girls! all that cares is that you love ice skating and want to learn it, like Tina Harwood (proffessional figure skater), once said to her skater before her performance, "Go into the bubble!" which means to feel like there is no one else out there bothering you, its just you and the ice!
