I need HELP! I dont know what to do!!!! Question about ice rinks and skating? |
Hello i need to know what i can do because i want to be a professional figure skater but the nearest ice rink is 2 hours away and my parents cant take me its too far for them. I wanted to buy a backyard ice rink but they say that they need to be placed in places whre the climate is cold enough to freeze the water but i live in california where it is always hot. i dont know what to do im dying inside and im depressed now and i cant sleep at night till 12 just thinking about this i CANT move one its my dream that i want to accomplish. I figured i can practice off ice for now till a year but will that do me any good at all? because we are moving in a year hopefully somewhere with an ice rink. what should i do i need an ice rink!!!!! by the wayt im positive that there are no other ice rinks here. i would like to have our city build one but wont i be gone by then? how long will it take ? help!1 maybe you could write to the city or rec center or something on why your city should have a skating rink. In the meantime, keep practicing and read all you can. Maybe on weekends or something you can go down to the rink and take some group classes just to get the feel of it. Before I started taking classes, Rollerblading helped get a feel for skating and its great for balancing. You could also take some ballet classes. The moves used in ballet is similar to the ones using in skating. For example, in ballet, 1st position is similar to a spread eagle, and an arabesque is similar to a spiral. Ballroom dancce would also be good because Ice dancing is literally ballroom on ice. Good luck on you goal! try using rollerblades until you move closer to an ice rink. Many hockey players rollerblade in the summer months to keep their legs in shape. There are places where you can buy a floor that works like ice and that you can ice skate on. I have used them before at a friends. Try looking at menards, lowes, or home depot! I hope that you find what you are looking for! Get OVER it!! If it is that far away then ask them to move or something. WHy do you whine? COMMON SENSE Believe me I know what it feels like to be missing out on something. I snowboard in the winter (i live in NY) but all summer im bored and wishing I could Snowboard. Theres not much you can do about ice skating, but if you really want to be an accomplised skater, you might want to stay in very good shape, there are many things and excersizes that can help you stay in shape and help you strengthen the muscles that you use during figure skating. You might want to ask around in the fitness section, if they have one, im new to this. I hope I helped a little. You certainly could see if your city would build an ice rink...I would talk to the parks and recreation department and see what you could do to help get one or see what you could do. You may move though before it would be built...building time alone was a little over a year (that did include an entire recreation center with two pools and other facilities), and in your case fund-raising may be a problem (our facility was paid by taxpayers from a bond to rebuilt our 30+ year old center). I also had to drive to other rinks in my area at least while my home rink was closed (it was about six months when they had to tear down the other center so that construction could proceed). You could also check out www.usfsa.org and see if there are any figure skating clubs/ rinks closer than two hours away, and you could also check to see if there are any rinks close to where you are moving (if you know where you are moving). Off ice training can be beneficial (for strength and balance), but for beginning skaters especially much of the training is done on the ice. Good luck! |
