In Indy Racing what does this word mean...?

when some one says "pole" in Indy racing what does that mean?

That means that they were fastest in qualifying and will start at #1 in the grid, the "pole position."
that's how far up they are in either the race or points.
The pole is the place where the lead car of the race is. Usually it is the fastest qualified car. At Indianapolis, the pole is a tall structure with the car numbers listed from top to bottom in the order the cars are running in the race. On an oval track the cars run counter-clockwise and the lead car on the left is the pole-sitter. On a road racing track they run clockwise and the pole-sitter is in the lead car on the right at the start of the race.
When you refer to someone starting from the pole, they are starting on the inside of row 1. When you refer to someone as having the pole, they are the number 1 qualifier.
pole is your raking in the race.... its not only in Indy racing its in almost every kind of car racing....
That they start in the 1st position
the pole is what a driver gets when they have the fastest qualifying time. they don't actually get a pole, but they do get to be the first car to start a race.
