Where will the next generation of drivers in the IRL or CHAMP (for that matter) come from? |
With the current batch of new stories that Sam Hornish is all but annouced that he will driving in NASCAR next year, it makes you wonder where the next crop of American Open Wheel racers will come from. Most drivers in the Sprint, Late Model, ARCA and etc. all dream of deal in NASCAR. Why should they consider Open Wheel Racing? What question do you want answered? There is always talent ready to move up open wheel or not. But i think a lot of open wheel drivers are thinking stock car is easier than it looks. Probably from karting, sprints and midgets, plus the other open wheel "feeder" series out there, such as the Indy Lights. The same place that the current generation came from. There are plenty of talented drivers waiting for a chance. The problem is a lack of teams and sponsorship money to put it all together. Tons of very talented drivers never get the chance to show their stuff in the top levels of racing. |
