Whats the difference between Ti Kwon Doe and Karate?

Whats the difference between Ti Kwon Doe and Karate?

Karate is a Japanese martial art While Tai Kwon Do is a Korean one.
The differences are in the style, methodology and historical background.
I'm sure you don't want the later 2 and you just want to be able tell them apart when you see something on TV.
In Karate, people wear a costume named "Gi". It is in white and unlike the Tai Kwon Do outfit; it is all open in the front. It means you wear a Karate Gi like a polo shirt but wear the Tai Kwon Do one like a T shirt.
In the fighting style, in Tai Kwon Do the opponents try to kick and kick and kick and again kick.
You don't see punching. Unlike Karate, in Tai Kwon Do the match is not interrupted after any side scores.
In standard Karate fighting, the fighters wear a small glove but don't use any head protection. But in Tai Kwon Do, the fighters don't wear glove but use a head protection hat like thing.
Tai Kwon Do kicks are stronger than Karate kicks but Tai Kwon Do lacks the hand techniques. And again Unlike Karate, grabbing is not allowed in Tai Kwon Do.

Now I think you know how tell the difference when seeing a match.

If you wanna pick one of them as a course, you should see which one you are more into.
Kicking very fast and back to back as in Tai Kwon Do or a bit slowing down and observing the opponent for possible Kick, Punch or Grab opportunities like in Karate.

Tai Kwon Do has only one style. But Karate is divided into many different branches.
What I described for you is the standard Karate style and I they only refer to a match as "Karate Match" it will be in this way. Standard Karate is called "Shito Ryu"
Sometimes different Karate styles have their own match.
In that case, the style name will be mentioned too.
Such as KyoKushin Karate, Kan-Zen Ryu Karate, Shotokan Karate and etc.
Obviously these different Karate styles fight in completely different ways.

Karate is Japanese, Tai Kwon Do is Korean.
Karate relies on strikes and kicks, while Tai Kwon Do is almost exclusively kicks. Tai Kwon Do kicks are more elaborate and tend to be more powerful (They're known for a lot of roundhouses). Karate strikes aim at being more efficient and although they don't quite achieve the power of Tai kwon do, some people feel they're more realistic because they tend to be faster to execute and require less flourish.
There is no difference Tia Kwan Do is a from of Karate which literally means an open-handed fighting style.

The difference probably would be more towards how the forms/Kata's are done, there maybe some similarities and a slight differece between the two, but each teaches the same concept of self of steam and confidence.of ones self.
Tae Kwon Do is Korean & emphasizes foot techniques. Karate is Japanese, which uses about equal amounts of hand & foot techniques or Okinawan which emphasizes hand techniques. The advantages of Tae Kwon Do are that your legs, being longer & stronger than your arms give you greater reach & more power. It is also less anticipated in a self defense situation. Also TKD is better for developing balance & flexibi9lity & is a better all around workout. The disadvantage is that we are not as acustomed to using our feet so it takes longer to train them. IMHO the positives outway the negatives.
