Anyone else think Kimbo could be a legitimate UFC caliber fighter? |
Obviously he is still a street fighter transitioning to MMA. His stand up looked very good against an old man ex boxer. It seems that with the right training partners and coaching he could at least be a contender. Probably never a champ but a good solid UFC fighter? He has the strenght and heart he just needs work on technique. Or am I way off? Kimbo lost to Sean Gannon. Gannon is a D level MMA fighter, at best. He had one fight, where he lost badly to a C level fighter. Who have you seen Kimbo beat that was any good? No one. Sure he beat Ray Mercer, but Mercer was 47 years old! Ray would have murdered him even ten years ago. In that fight, he new he couldn't box (his main skill) with Mercer, so he tied him up. Take your pick, any decent MMA fighter will beat him. Royce Gracie hasn't beaten up a big guy in a long time, how about him? I've never been impressed with Kimbo's fighting abilites. I've seen him get some pretty weak knockouts. Looks like he fights a lot of guys that are big but have no fighting capability. He usually gets a lot of guys when they are in the corner of somebody's backyard leaning up against a rusted filing cabinet next to a broken desk and some trashcans. UFC, as you know, is a completely different enviornment with far more skilled fighters. Kimbo specializes in boxing. He should really be working on submission defense, kicking and his ground game. I don't think he will ever be a dominate force in the UFC. Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see him fight. You're right though and as with any fighter, with the proper training he could establish himself as a contender. his timing is off, he is already in his 30's and just starting out, so by the time he gets the experience he needs he will be to old, there are some things an older fighter can train to improve like speed, strength, and technique, but the one thing you can't train yourself for is recovery time after being hit, no matter what you do a 35 to 40 year old is not going to recover as fast as a 19-25 year old is. and now a day a lot of these 19-25 year old fighter already have 10-15 years in the sport of MMA, so Kimbo will always have the punchers chance! I wish one of these company's would start a masters division for fighter over 40 or something like that! youre way off, he is too old, and not that great of a fighter, i know there is a lot of people that think he is really good because he just beat a old boxer, and these same people are talking about him fighting Crop cop, come one he is a bum compare to a trained fighter, just search you tube and you'll see when he lost to a trained fighter, and the other guy wasn't that great either Probably not. He's already in his mid thirties and has just begun training. Granted he's got a great camp to work in with the IFL's Anacondas (FUTURE WORLD CHAMPS BABY!) but it's too late for him to be a force in the Octagon. He may some day make it to the UFC, but my guess is the furthest he'll make it into Zuffa is a failed WEC run. If he had turned to MMA about a year and a half ago he may have made it into one of PRIDE's freakshow matches. I'm sure the Japanese would have loved to see Kimbo vs. Zuluzhino. I doubt he could make it in the UFC. He has some decent boxing skills, but he would be at a loss when he is taken down. Guys like Randy Couture or Tito Ortiz would tie him into a pretzel before either choking or striking him out. Kimbo would just be another Tank Abbot. Some promoter will roll out some losers who will stand in front of him to destroy. Any decent fighter would make him look really bad. Maybe him and Tank should fight, that would be cool. |
