FOOTBALL - UMPIRE ABUSE What do people think?

Who just saw the story on 60 min is it wrong to abuse the ref or is it the fun part of going to the footy and yell at him
I can understand a lot of people get fustrated at the ref like when they always do there best to help the Bulldogs every week, thank goodness we have 2 good teams in the final that were good enough to overcome the odds against then like the ref at Bulldogs games

I think booing, heckling and yelling at the ref is all a part of the game. However when some supporters cross the line and spit on, or throw things at them or are physically abusive in any way, they need to be dealt with as that's not acceptable. As much as we get annoyed with them, there would be no game without them.

I think the fans go overboard a lot of the times.
But the umpires know what to expect before they take that kind of job.

i agree with you . that part of the game if you ask me they the refs . are as much part of the out come of the game as the player . i think they are just a bunch of cry babies out their now doing the games . maybe they need to hire some real Men to ref. the games because i will continue to heckle them or give them hell.lol
Yeah, for sure. Players and fans sometimes get so fustrated because they believe that the referee made a mistake which could change the whole game. This is very unfair, and you really can't change their mind. But however this is really disrepectful to the refs, without refs, the game would be in a total mess. Players and fans should just calm down and play and treat others fairly.
It all really depends. Some of the time the referee is wrong and makes the wrong call. The player should have a right to argue with him instead of just taking it. In the Manly-Newcastle match where Johns got suspended, most people think Johns had a right because the call was wrong, and proved very costly.
