What's the average career length for a Rugby and Australian Rules Player?

I have played many years of American Football and have great respect for Rugby Players , I even had two team mates from the U.K who played College ball with me who played Rugby , they were some tough S.O.B's , I even tried to play Rugby in a league here in Southern California , and yes I can say it is tougher than American Football , my Question is what is the average career length of a Professional Rugby Player ? Best Answer 10 big ones !

Thank You .

AFL players tend to last longer than Rugby players due to the physical nature of rugby. Some of the best AFL players have started playing at 18-20, and have played untill they are 35. So you would say around 13-15 years would be the length of a career for a good, relatively injury free player.

But some players do sustain major injuries to knees, shoulders, calfs and hamstrings, which can shorten there career by a lot. I would say some players don't make it big until there 24, but they will then play until they are 34-35.

If I could take a stab I would say average career length for an AFL player would be 8-10 years, but if they have injuries, and/or lose form it could only be 4-5 years.

As for rugby, I'm from SA so don't follow it.
