as there ever been a better player than willie mason .i think not take a back seat joey johns I am shaking my head...I can't believe that you put your name to that comment. He is a great forward and undoubtedly one of the first picked for the Blues this year, but there have been better impact players, defensive players, team players and attacking players than Mason. If you want names of tough guy ball playing forwards I will throw these up at random... Wayne Pearce, Craig Young, Ray Price, Bob Lindner, Billy Moore, Steve Walters, Brad Clyde... At that's just the last 20 years. Mason may be the equal of some of those guys, but when you look at his lack of consistency over the last 2-3 years, you can't make a good argument for him. Oh yeah, and he is a goose off the park. Cocaine use, forging team mates signatures at an official Blues function, drunken fights...it goes on and on... He will never get that elusive NFL deal he is looking for whilst he carries on like that off the field... I'm a Melburnian who knows little about rugby league, but aren't Wally Lewis and "Alfie" Langer (and Andrew Johns) supposed to be some of the all-time greats? Especially after their legendary performances in the State of Origin series. Clyde, pearce, lewis, c. mortimer, fulton, etc etc. The list goes on. Asotasi is the best forward playing at the moment. Willie mason is a self-centered pr&*@. He is no where need the best. Unless you are talking about the best at playing with his willie. Willie is good dont get me wrong but watch it mate willie is not the best out there... On any given week there are 200 odd stars out there mate if they werent they wouldnt be in the nrl they would still be in jersey flegg or the queensland cup... Willie is on top of his game now but serious can he kick pass and dictate play the way a good half back could? There is more to the game these days that takling and make hit ups, which once again dont get me wrong willie is good at, but as i pointed out this is the area he is a specialist at. Anyway I detest that johns is being called the best ever, again he was good but best ever... in the next generation will they be talking about mason or johns i think not unless pete stirling is still commentating and rabbiting on lol what i do applaud is the fact that their showman ship is bringin people to the game and that is what counts most if we want to have a heath league for the decades to come... |
