Tell how hiking is an aerobic activity? A few different ponits would be helpful
an aerobic activity is anything that gets your heart beating faster and makes you sweat. Hiking sure counts. if you do it at more than a slow walk, you should be breathing hard and sweaty within 20 minutes.
Well on one hand, it doesn't require much, but you do not stop moving for long periods of time, so that would classify it as an aerobic activity. (30 Minutes + Nonstop considered aerobic) Hope this helps!
There is only one point. aerobic means with air, anything you do with air in and out is aerobic. For example if I run upstairs to tee tee, I am moving air. However, not much, so hiking would definitely classify as aerobic, as does jumping rope, riding a bike, and just plain old running. Course you can get aerobic exercize without ruining your knees cuz when you get to be 55 they will be gone. So I'd rather hike than run, but hiking probably does more for the muscles.
I've hiked for several years and include the activity in my workout regime for cardio cross training. Honestly, it depends on your pace and the terrain. If you maintain a brisk pace (doesn't have to be a jog or faster) over varying elevations, it's a great workout. Try jogging the flat and downhill sections, and sprinting the uphill sections... you'll build great endurance and leg strength! Just watch out for those exposed tree roots across the trail; they can put a quick end to your workout, and help put your orthopedic specialists kids through college.
