Wahts a good mile time for a 14 year old?

right now its 8 minutes, but i want to cut it down to at least 6-7 minutes. any tips? thanks!

A good but not great time would be 8 minutes for girls and 7 minutes for boys. The best your likely to see is 6 minutes for girls and 5 minutes for boys. The four minute mile for a 12 year old girl is straight-up impossible. That's slightly less then thirty seconds per two hundred meters the whole way. Running that fast all-out is pretty much unheard of for that age and gender, let alone such a mile time.

If you running at 8 minutes, you doing well. Seven's would put you among the best in your school and six's competitive. I am a 14 year old male my mile record is 5:37. I could probably run 5:20 but haven't down it for time in a while. The fastest mile for a boy in my school is 5:10 and 6:03 for a girl, but both were unstoppable racers. I am on the top five but nothing fantastic in that event.

My best advice for cutting it down is to run. If you join a track or cross country team, just from running you will get faster. Since it's summer and that might not be an option, just run. But be sure to run often.

Besides just running as you feel comfortable, you don't need to do much specific stuff until you ability starts to peak out. If you like to run and just go run, you can take a lot of time off you mile very quickly before improvement starts to slow down. Even then, you tend to get faster just from growing older.

Good luck and be sure to have fun with it.
WEll right now im 13 an run it in about 10. But for u i would focus on endurance and duration.(trust me my parents do this for a living!!)
A good time is about 5min and 10sec or lower. It depends on what you have done in the past.
i am 12 i can do mine in 4 minutes but i am very very athletic! I would run a little each day and make it a little loger every time that is how i did it but remember 8 mins is really good for a 14 yr old. But again i am the fastest at my elementary school but now i am in 7th but there was over 280 kids there. You will get better over time don't worry it is not bad at all!
Best of luck!
That is good for a 14 year old and that is agood goal to reach. The average for a 14 year old would probably be 7-10 minute miles. I would recommend running or jogging two miles a day and when you feel comfortable with that increase to three miles and you will feel like the mile is nothing.
sweetheart your time is good and well in the range of your age group. If you want to run faster you first have to start running longer to build up some endurance. get your lungs and body used to working for longer than a mile. I have been running since I was in High school and although at 32 I am slower than I used to be I can still pull it in the 6 min range. not at all the fastest but that ok. but I usually run longer Im a 5 and 10k runner myself. there is no quick fix for speed you just have to keep working at it and build it up and the speed will come. first work on running further anf then you can go back to speed.
Fellow runner. Good luck and keep up
