What is a good time for a 15 year old male in the 800 meter? |
I ran a 2:09 as a freshman and i want to know what my goal should be as a sophomore. I ran the 800 back in high school - 2:09 as a freashman is pretty dang good. Anything under 2:10 is considered 'good' in my opinion for a sophomore. If you want to start hitting the 'next level' though you are going to need to bring it down under the 2:05 level and continue to improve. Where I grew up (suburbs of Chicago), guys who were tops in the state usually ran 1:51 to 1:54 by their senior year so that just gives you an idea of where you would probably ultimately want to be. I'd suggest doing some interval workouts. Run a 400 in about 70, jog for a 200 and then do it again. Do this for 16 400s. That is what our coach used to do for us back in high school. We usually tried to get four guys in the 1:58-2:03 area and try to qualify for state in the 4x800 - no one was ever really good enough in the open 800. Best of luck to you. WOW! THATI S GOOD TIME! you ahve potential to be great middle distance runner! if i was you, set goal of under 2:00 minutes! you can do it! by your senior year, you just might have a school record! when i was in high school, i ran a 1:51 in 800 and it is still a school record, 27 years later!! you can do the same, kid!! anything under 2:15 is awesome! You can probably win districts with a 1:53 or thereabouts, so keep up the good work! Your time freshman year was a good time for anyone your age now, so your question should not be "what is a good time for a 15 year old" but rather "what should my goal be" I recommend trying to take about 5 seconds off your time each year... and don't get discouraged if you don't jump right in to running 2:09 your first couple races this year... let your body adjust to the new season, give yourself a couple of weeks to adjust. You don't want to peak the first couple of meets, you want to hit your peak during the district and state championships! honestly, if you want to not only succeed but blow people out in high school then a 2:09 for a frosh is ok. you should do cross country or something to build your endurence up. If this is done you should be aiming for low 2 minute half miles. If I were you I'd be aiming for about a 2 flat but what I noticed was a lot of boys had their worst yr in track as a sophmore. Dont know why but I had my worst year as a junior (im a yr younger than every1 so techinicaly I had a bad sophmore yr). This may be because boys grow around this age which can mess up your knees a little bit. Not reallly sure. I would aim for a 2 minute half mile soph yr. Then a 1:57 junior yr and a 1:56 senior yr only because when your running that fast as a high school kid its hard to cut off time. 2:09 as a freshman. Freshman are ussually at 2:40. ur doin good...i think u should aim for 2:00.and to noname.....if any freshman in my school ran a 2:40 he would be smoked |
