Play pool in Madison area?

I am new to the Madison area and was wondering if there is a nice place to play pool, and possibly join a pool league. Not looking for a bar on State St but a more clean, establishment without many shady characters. Is there such a place?

Hey friend, I actually live in Madison. The Blue Chalk Club in Middleton (formerly The Green Room) is the newest and probably nicest pool hall. I personally like the Brass Ring on E. Washington Av. It's got 8 really nice 9-foot Diamond tables. There's always Cue-nique on Gorham. I'm not a huge fan of that place. The Memorial Union on the UW Campus has a nice little pool hall downstairs with some Brunswick Gold Crowns. The Pool Barn on the East side is kind of a ----hole. It's just a bunch of crappy seven footers and one 9-footer and probably not the kind of element you want to associate with. There's a lot of bars with a large selection of tables as well. Pitcher's Pub just off the beltline by the Rimrock Rd. exit has about 20 bar tables and one 9-footer. The Great Dane has two locations, one near the capital building and the other in Fitchburg (technically where I live) on Fish Hatchery Rd. They are unique in that they only have 8-footers. Each location has about 8 tables. Send me an email if you want to play sometime. I'm always looking for quality people to play with. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
