I want to buy snow skis?

I want to buy used snow skis and I live near beaver mountain (Logan) and I don't know anything about buying them. I love skiing though. and how much would used skis be.

Hi! A fellow Utahn!!

Come on down to Salt Lake in September/October time period...lots of ski swaps where you can get decent gear fairly cheap. Usually, depending on the condition, anywhere between $100 - $300 for a half way decent pair.

Different swaps:

REI - small fee
Black Diamond (free)
Rowland Hall - small fee

(I forgot the name of this one) It's in Foothill Plaza, a few stores down from the Dan's there. That's always good (and free to browse).

I know there is at least one swap up by Snowbird (I think), and Park City also has some swaps.

Look for equipment in good order. After seeing some different pairs, you will know what I mean. Make sure the bases don't have any major gouges, make sure the edges aren't rusty.

Depending on your ability and physique, you probably want a ski that comes to near your chin, or maybe the bottom of your nose.

Beginner? Get a shorter ski.

Also, something to check out if you are a beginnerish type: the sports stores almost always have "Beginners Specials", where you can get entry level skis, boots, and poles for a pretty decent price.

Another thing to check out is Sniagrab. I think that is at Sports Authority now that they have bought out Gart Sports. Source(s): I live in Salt Lake, and ride at Alta.
