What kind of board should I buy?

okay.. so I am 15 years old and I want to start tto surf this summer.. i just moved by the beach. anyways i know how to longboard and skateboard and snowboard (I dont know if this helps) but I really want to learn.. I am a girl.. I am 5'3'' about 120 lbs. please help.

I'm basically in the same position as you are, and I bought an egg last summer. (I haven't had a chance to ride it since then, but once I get my license I can go). Everyone says it's way easier to learn on something bigger, so I'd go with something at least 7 feet.

K, so heres whats up the rest of these groms are just going to research your weight and height online and telling you what to get. this is what i recommend. first try it out and see if you like surfing at mellow point break. then if you really like it and plan to take it up then go on craigslist and buy a cheap long board such as a soft top around 7 feet or longer. Then you take that out surfing until you get pretty good at riding that board, then you can graduate to a better board, either short or long but by the time you get good at surfing that craigslist board you will have talked to enough people out in the water to gain the knowledge to choose your own board. If you go out and buy one of those 500 to 600 dollar boards you will just end up spending more money because you will tear that board to shreds running into people/ rocks.

your best bet is to check out some trust worthy surf shops. the will be able to help you out a lot. but do not just go to one, check out at least 5.
Since your question states you already know how to longboard and how to skateboard, it sounds like you are asking about buying your first shorter board. Based on your size, I would think you might want to go 7' fun shape next. There are plenty of good quality boards that size for sale in the $500 to $600 range. Rent a decent 7' board and try it out.
