What makes a good surfboard? why?

Im interested in surfing, but i have no idea what makes a board good. so, tell me the characteristics of a good board, good brands, and what r the prices like? thanks alot!

Well you definitely want to check weight; if its too heavy and you can't lift it thats bad, but if its also too light for your weight, youll be sinking in the water. You also should check the height, if its too hard too use if its too tall. Width is also an issue if you have short arms; you dont want a board that you cant paddle. For first time surfers, B-z boards are great because they are foam on the top so you wont get hurt if your face slams down on the board, and the fins are also really sturdy so they won't break as easily.
start out on a long board, then work your way up to a shorter board.

Boards are made out of hard foam.
The durability and the smoothness of the board and the length. It has to be fit for your size, otherwise you'll feel like you're riding a giant flat board to sink town.
depends on what you are looking for and where you are at. they are ALL fun. 7' Egg is fun in mush, 6'4 thruster is fun when it gets big, 5'10 twin fin is fun on smaller days (2-4). like i said, that is me though. you need to find what is right for you
