Why does chlorine tan my skin?
I went to an INDOOR swimming pool and it was even nighttime, but the next thing you know I get a tan! Why does this happen? I wanna keep fair skin yet at the same time I like to swim :(
Also, before my friend began swimming she was pretty fair. She took daily lessons at a community center and by the end of the year she was seriously tanned... and I heard the tan doesnt leave! Why does this happen to some people? What can I do to prevent this from happening? I really wanna continue swimming.
I'd say if anything the chlorine would take a tan away from you. Since chlorine and water get into your skin cells and dilute the pigments that make up a person's tan appearance they decrease your color level from passive and active transport within the cell.
As for another explanation to this I'd say maybe you (and your friend) have gone swimming in a place with either a lot of windows or a place with very bright lights. Although very bright lights barely give off the same amount of particles that the sun does in direct proportion it is still possible to get a tan from artificial light. Talk to other swimmers who go to the place where you go and ask them about the situation. Also, if the pool you swim at has a lot of windows they might be letting in some of the tanning elements of sunlight. Try to swim away from any windows if at all possible. You may also have spent a lot of time outside and this whole thing might just be coincidental that when you started swimming you spent more time outside than you had previously and you got tan then.
hmm never heard of that before.. i've been swimming for 6 years and it's never happened to me unless i swim outside.
does your pool have a lot of windows?
Your skin is drying out. put on lotion
Wow I'm swimming like 25 years but I've never heard about it. I think the chlorine does nothing, may be something else in the water.
i dont really know but i wish that it would do that for my skin, cool for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
First off, tans are hott so I dont kno why you would want to get rid of one. And chlorine usually bleaches my skin sorta, does the opposite..unless im in an outdoor pool.
umm I'm a lifeguard and I have never heard or seen this happen in an indoor pool, but what I can say is that if the indoor pool was open to the daylight like the sun maybe this was the cause for the tanning.Due to the pool chemicals, when the sun hits the pool water, the water acts like a magnifying glass and this could make you tan. I hope this helps and if not im sorry I tried=)
