What is the ratio of lifeguarding to break?

after guarding for a certain amount of time do you get a break and for how long?

Usually you get a fifteen minute break for every hour that you are on duty.
We rotate every 15 minutes and then when it's your turn, you get your 15 minute break. That seems to be the norm but at my friend's pool, they rotate every 30 minutes.
you should get a ten minute break every hour. Keeps you alert and focused and allows you too cool off.
We rotate every half an hour. Our pool is rather small (I work at a country club) so we only have two stations, so we spend 30 minutes on stand near the shallow end, rotate, spend thirty minutes on stand near the deep end, and then get a half hour break. At a bigger pool, however, you usually get less rest between shifts and rotate between more stations.
