Tread water? |
How do you tread water? People say that you move your legs in circles which I tried, but I just sank down. Please help! I need this fast! Relax. That's the first thing. Although it seems to come natural, I think you can describe it. Your arms will be straight out to your sides, and parallel with the surface of the water. You cup your hands and move your arms through the water in a figure-eight laying on it's side, bending your elbows in and out as you paddle. Your hips are bent slightly, not quite sitting, but just bent comfortably. Your legs are apart, maybe about 2 feet apart. Now this is the hard part to describe: yes, you move your legs in a circular motion, but also up and down. Kinda like riding a bike, but swirling too. There are 2 ways to learn how to do this. One, you start in the shallow end and walk out to where you can still touch and raise your feet off the bottom and pretend your are both walking and swimming at the same time. You'll figure it out. The other way is to dog paddle and get slower and slower. Your body will want to become more upright, and to balance. you will end up moving your arms out to the sides instead of being in front of you. I don't remember learning to swim, so it seems natural to me, but one thing I have noticed about new swimmers is that they try too hard. Your body knows how to do this. Every animal in the world is born knowing how to swim. Humans are the only ones that panic and think they can't. Relax, and go slowly. Breathe slowly and just push yourself around and eventually you will be swimming like a fish. i play waterpolo and i teach a lot of new kids how to do it. the easiest way i can explain it is move your legs like a batter mixer. you know those electric ones with the two stick things you use when mixing cake mix and stuff? just do that. both your legs are rotateing inward. your right leg goes counter'clockwise and your left goes clockwise. not at the same time. do it to were one leg is inward and the other is outward, you know? just go look at your batter mixer and thats how you do it! NEVER scisser kick. What to do with you hands? you seen how royal poeple wave all nice and pretty like on Princess Diaries? move your hands, both of them, like that but with your palms facing down. simple as that! your thumb doesnt have to be held in with your other fingers. just hold your four fingers together. tada! your a pro! |
