Can you put Vodka in your ear to dry out swimmers ear? |
My friend told me to do it for my swimmers ear,I just wanted to see. They tried it on Mythbusters and it didn't work. Its just an old saying that is not true. maybe....or you could just drink it? Use rubbing alcohol instead. It works like a charm. Then u can save the vodka for me! :0) Please dont put those harsh chemicals in your ear.... Use "sweet oil." Its all natural, not harsh or harmfuf and you can find it in your local drug store. Well, it will dry out any water molecules still in your ear, but if you have an inflammation in there (which is what swimmers' ear is), it can irritate and make it hurt worse. Better to let the ear heal by avoiding water, then when it's all clear, swim and put a few drops of regular medicinal (isopropyl) alcohol in to dry any leftover H2O up. Isopropyl alcohol costs 49 cents for a small bottle- a LOT less than vodka. Save the vodka for your orange juice! PS- sweet oil is olive oil. Still more expensive and can add bacteria into your ear. PharmD I am not sure about the vodka. However, I have used for many years a mixture of rubbing alcohol and distilled vinegar in equal parts. The vinegar is acid and kills the bacteria and the alcohol dries out the ear stopping the regrowth of said bacteria Just a few (2 or 3) drops in each ear is what I have done after each time I get my ears wet. |
