I'm a swim instructor and I almost lost & drowned 2 kids yesterday. Help ...? |
The mom is pissed and I'm scared to talk to her. The boss phoned my house and held a staff meeting for "every staff member .." a.k.a. ME. What's the best way to earn the mom's trust so I get a tip next Friday? Always keep your eyes on all kids at all times. I almost drowned as a kid (3 times)... once I was already blue and needed a doctor. It happened very fast, and my Mom was there and only turn her back for a second and I was gone under. the second time was the same situation ... a couple of seconds my dad turns his back and I was under (in the ocean: worse!) , he picked me up just on time ( iwas actually "swimming" but under water!) So it happens to parents as well. and of course your job is to teach kids how to swim and not drown them... as my parents' job was to do the same... but it happened, make sure it does not happen again. The third time it was my fault, I did not listen to my parents and went surfing in a dangerous spot, and two guys pulled me out of the water. I am a swimmer now even though I got 3 very scary swimming incidents. My parents knew the rule all so well, but see it happened to my Dad even though he knew the rule... when you have too many kids around you, it is hard. My Dad refused to go to teh ocean with all 3 of us at the same time after that, so we had our turn with him in the ocean. lesson learned. Don't do it if you don't want the responsability. I myself had to coach 2 kids (2 and 4 years old) and it was sometimes difficult to keep them within my sight but I was strict with them and made the kids understand that it was the rule... no one could swim out of sight... and the kids understood and I never had any problem so far. Of course I did not trust them with that, i had to be the one watching at all times, but it helped that they knew that it was not acceptable to swim away, or go under water to play tricks. It responsabilizes the kids as well... as all swimmers know, you are not supposed to swim "alone" in a pool. we all need lifeguards at all times. Basic safety rule. So be clear with the kids about the eyesight rule. and never stop watching them all at the same time because they are kids and they will trick you. Uhmm. how the hell you would almost drown 2 kids!? You should quit. Not your line of work stop worrying about the tip and just do your Job. Pay attention and go with the flow. Then the tips will start again. Water safety is serious business. Once you start taking your job seriously, then the mom may begin taking you seriously. 1st how did you almost drown them? 2nd do something nice. like take them out to dinner or whatnot. or just buy them a giftcard. that always works ;) You almost lost 2 kids and your concern is next week's tip? There are many jobs which are good for income which have less heavy responsibilities. What about bartending or waiting? |
