How a ship can float on water?

how a ship can float on water while it is so heavy

It's because of the buoyancy.

Ships can float because of their shape. The heavy weight of that ship is spread out over a big area

Displacement

The wider the area, the easier to float.

Think of lying on a bed of nails closely grouped together. Now think of lying on a bed with only one nail in the middle.

The wider the displacement, the more area that gets a small amount of effect.

bouyancy is effect of a displaced object
Because the weight is evenly distributed over the water. (The flat bottom of the ship) Like snow shoes.
Archimedes's principle of buoyancy.

Well its the disghn of a ship, the water is displaced.

It's like this...

water is heavyer then air...

if u think about it, there is alote more air on a ship then anything ealse, "filling rooms and deck" the metal is just a small part of the ship... and thats keeping the water from comeing in. =]

thank yahz,
