Will swimming alone tone me up?

I have just rejoined my gym and hate using gym equipment (flashbacks of school PE lessons - urgh) so I have started doing about 10-12 laps of the pool, 3 times a week. (The more swimming I do, the more laps I'll do).
But I want to know if swimming will be enough to tone me up - I'm not a big girl but I have the odd few wibbly bits I'd like gone!

Yes it is the best form of toning excercise. I would try increase your laps to at least 20 each session. Try built up your speed and stamina, get the laps done in the best possible time, try beat your previous time - that way it stops things getting boring and you work your body more. Yes its the only excercise that uses all your muscles in your body so yeah i think it'll be enough.
you can bet that swimming will tone you up,it's probably the best exercise to do,it's a good cardio workout.
That and watch what you eat. What the hell are "wibbly bits"?
You only have to look how slender we are.
It's a great way to stay in shape and is an excellent low impact sport but it won't get you super fit and toned unless you work very hard. To keep in top condition I swim 60+ lengths 4 times a week. I also cross train using fencing and running to use all of my muscle groups. Vary your stroke and speed to get the best out of your sessions...
