Are power bars good to eat before/during a swim meet?? |
Just wondering... Before you're much much better off eating a healthy meal. Something that covers all the food groups. The day before a meet you should have a meal high in carbs...pasta has always worked for me. Power Bars are great especially after a long workout to help gain strength and supply your body with essential fast burning proteins. But at a meet eating a whole one during the weekend will more than likely slow you down. Eat healthy and drink water and gatorade during a meet and save the powerbars for after very strenuous swimming/lifting/running sessions. Source(s): Exercise Science Upper Division Major, USA Swimming age group club coach. You really need to read the labels. A lot of those so-called "fitness bars" are full of garbage that is bad for you. If the label indicates that the bar has more than 3g of saturated fat, or if the ingredient list contains high fructose corn syrup or partially or fully hydrogenated oil (any kind), avoid it like the plague. Also, bear in mind that many people who eat fitness bars before working out report cramping, so be sure to drink plenty of water if you do eat a fitness bar before a meet. not really, power bars are basically used for a very short term boost of energy. It's generally best to use them if your doing long distance, so that you can top your energy levels up without stopping (i used to use glucose tablets during long distance swims) but if you use them every swim meet you or your body will start relying on them and you'll think you'll struggle without, best thing to do is have a meal way before you set off so it has time to settle, that way it will release energy at a steadier level for longer. power bars wouldn't really help you in swimming except give you a stomache try to eat healthier and you will gain more energy..... Power bars, energy drinks, anything of that sort is not a good for a swim meet. You feel all hyped up for about an hour and then crash. Stay away from them and just eat carbohydrates and water!
