Why does my pool water continue to be cloudy? I run the filter 24-7, backwash as needed, my water readings are

chlorine 3-5., ph 7.5, alkaline 180, calcium hardness 200, cyanuric acid 60 all other metals are 0. I even turned the pump off for a couple of days hoping it would clear, it didn't.

You mention the chlorine is 3-5, is this free chlorine or total chlorine? Is there a difference between the two in your pool? Even combined chlorine levels as low as .2ppm will create a cloudy environment in the pool requiring the proper application of chlorine to breakpoint it.

Feel free to drop me a line at robandliz1992@yahoo.com and I'll be happy to help you through and get you on the right track for maintaining your pool pristine and healthy.

If you have a pool store anywhere near you please take a sample of water to them and have them test for the following:
Total chlorine
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Cyanuric acid
Total dissolved solids
Metals (including manganese)
Phosphates

Or if you have these results on hand please send them. Also include any chemicals you've used in the pool over the last week or two (ingredients are best but name brands will work as well), color of the cloudy water, material the pool is made of, filtration system, chlorination system, and any alternative cleaners on the pool (Frog, Nature2, etc). Try using clarifier and run your pump for about 12 hours after.
very interesting question. can i ask for more info? is the cloudiness a smokey colour or a dark colour, not green right? how old is your filter? does the pump sound ok? can you see or feel normal circulation? My first reaction is that your filter needs more "fines" added to it, ( its a sand filter right?), and a little alum in the strainer , and pool clarifier my help. it does sound though like there are fine particles and the water is not being cleaned physically. your chlorine and pH are fine and shouldnt be a problem
