Where to swim with Whale Sharks? experience? |
Hi all. I would like to know where to swim with Whale Sharks? I am from SYdney, AUstralia and would like to experience this. I know you can swim in South Africa, Donsol - Philippines and Exmouth - WA- Australia. From my calculations, getting from Sydney to Exmouth is going to cost $4000 AUD including travel, accommodation and tours. Is this worth it? I am from the philippines but grew up in Australia, should I try it at Donsol? Can anyone share their experience with swimming with Whale Sharks? Is it worth it? You probably would only swim for like 20 minutes if you saw one maybe * Mozambique ! Why? Just or the money, you want to swimwith a whale shark. only you can answer the question about it being worth it. i saw some videos about them in THailand which is closer than south africa i think here is a video of a whale shark in Thailand... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgxv-wqkm... I don't know about areas around Australia but we did swim with them off the coast in Mexico. They are very protected, you are not allowed to touch them. I'm sure it's different every where you go, however I heard a man telling a story how he touched one and it wasn't in the mood, he got smacked with the tail fin really hard. Our experience however was amazing -the one we swam with stayed near the surface for a long time. They are beautiful, gentle, gigantic creatures. It really weird when you first see them - the water is usually blurry due to all the plankton in the water - then without warning they just appear - all 45 feet of them - wow, it's like swimming next to a submarine. Stay away from the front of the fish, you wouldn't want to get sucked in (not that they can actually swallow you they cant - the throat is too narrow) when they are collecting plankton to eat. Yes I would definitely say it's worth it and I would love to do it again. We are hoping to someday go diving with them in Belize. Previous experience snorkeling with Whale Sharks off the coast of Holbox Mexico. |
