Are Fast Skins suits worth the money? |
A lot of young swimmers are suiting up in these (10 to 14 year olds) at this years meets. Do they really make a difference? We have some parents buying them to give their swimmer and edge. I hesitate at the price and the fact I am not convinced it will make much of a difference in a young swimmers time. Anybody out there had some experience with Fastskins or Aqua Blades? You give a kid a fast skin and it's like telling them they have some kind of rocket booster on their feet. The biggest thing for them is the psychological advantage. At 10 years old the kids need stroke improvement most of all, not the fastest suit made. I would suggest waiting until the 13-14 year old division before getting a fast skin. Or tell your child that they can get one once they achieve a certain time with a regular suit. Also know that fast skins wear down very very quickly. You can probably wear them for 5 meets and that is it before they lose their effect. The material on them actually creates the same if not less drag than regular human skin so they WILL help you go faster. But children that are in junior high, ages 10ish to 13ish, are still growing and many times have just started hitting puberty. The majority of their time drops will come from simply getting bigger and putting on muscle mass. In the end, if you have the money to spend and the child is in some big time meets then it may be worth it. But getting one so they can swim their "A" times at any old meet just doesn't make financial sense to me. Source(s): USA Swimming Age Group Club coach. They do make a difference which is why the pros wear them, but it is minimal. (we are talking 10ths of a second - less on a 100yd) So unless your kid is trying to be that serious and consistently loosing a place by 100th of a second, then don't bother. If you end up feeling the need to buy, look on ebay for one 2nd hand. As kids grow so quickly and you only race (not train) in the suits then they should still be in good condition No it makes a difference even in the younger kids. It the whole attitude. They think, i am wearing a fast skin its what the pros do, i am ready to go, i am going to go way faster. Its not the suit so much as it is the attitude. So yes i think it will make a difference. Experience Yes my sister (10 yrs old) is a competitive swimmer who is very skilled. My mom spent the money on a fast skin and it was worth it. Of coarse u cant buy one and think that it will make u go remarkebly faster. U need to train hard, and take good care of ur fast skin in order for it to be "worth it". BTW- my sister has been the #1 swimmer in the state in 6 events and continues to achieve new goals. hi im 14 and i were fast skin two leg skins i think thay help me thay feel like your wearing nothing and it has improved my times but not just because of them u have 2 train very hard i train 8 times a week and that why my times have gone down aswell but if your doing breast stroke dont wear leg skins |
