Counterattacking burnout from swimming?

i am a 16 year old girl. i first told my mom in 7th grade that i wanted to get a sectionals cut like some of the older kids. (i only wanted to go cause my 17 yr old crush was going hahah) well i got two cuts that year, in the 200 breast and 400 im. every since then i completely deciated myself to swimming. i swam 4 hours a day, and lifted. as i aproach this year and go through the motions of LC season, i am getting so sick and tired of it. i really dont want to sound cocky but im one of the best in the state, but honestly it doesnt mean anything. i dont know why i chase a line up and down for hours. yes it will get me into a good college but its not like i can make a career out of it. i love my team, theyre my 2nd family. i love my coach too. i love competing but im so sick of practice and times and yardage. does anyone know how to combat burnout? pleasee helppp

I've felt burntout A LOT. Honestly, the year round training can wear on a person. One thing that I like to do is to cross train. You might already be doing this but it helps me out a lot. Also you might wanna take a month or two off. Yeah, you will have to get back into shape but u can do it. Through high school I'd take a month or two after high school season before getting back into it(I had high school season in the winter Nov-Feb.). I'd play basketball instead of swimming, kept me a bit in shape(nothing like swimming shape) but I could hang out with my friends that played basketball and when summer season rolled around I felt fresh to train. It worked for me, Sectionals Cuts, High School All American and a college scholarship.
I get what you are feeling. I suggest trying to take a break for a little while and do you own thing. At least cut back a great deal. Take of part of the season, find some other hobbies. There is no magical cure. But if you take a break and don't really want to swim anymore that might happen. More likely though you will grow to miss alll the reasons that you swim and will want to keep at it. Don't let swimming be all that you are right now, you are 16 you can do anything.
I understand how you're feeling right now.
Try taking a break and you'll be yearning to go back.
I took a break and when I went back to swimming, I was SO motivated to get back into shape and it was so fun.
Hope this helps.

o sweetheart been there... its hard sometimes a brake is good set your self a time and date if your so not keen on getting back to it there is your answer . You could talk to your coach they can help. looking back at it all now im so glad i swam it keeped me out of trouble. Swimming isnt the end all of life its a hard sport. unless your the best in the world you dont make much money think of that. sometimes for me thought all i needed was a new pair of togs!!!! Check out what i did when i left the sport... www.fashionfish.com.au.
good luck
