How do you become better at holding your breath for swimming?

How do you become better at holding your breath for swimming?

You could do a breath control work out, i used to really suck at holding my breath but after a few months of this it got easier

Take 3 strokes then a breath for the length that you want, if you only want to go a short distance do a 25m of each but if you want to go longer you could do a 50m or 100m

Then after the 3 keep on going no breaks go to 5 strokes then a breath

Then move to 7

Then to 9

this is normally written as 3/5/7/9, so start with 25m go 3 strokes then a breath then the next 25m do 5 strokes and so on, then as times passes move to 50m of each then to 100m of each and keep going if you please

Hope i help! ;)
Practice holding your breath by setting small reachable goals. The first week set a goal of maybe 30 sec, then the next week one minute, and so on. Your lung capacity will continue to grow to your desired level. Also, doing aerobics helps keep up your stamina to work hard while holding your breath.
Aerobics is an excellent suggestion. Starting small is best. Actual dives with partners under 30' really helps "pressurize" your body to help begin triggering the mammalian reflex.
Please be safe!
i exercise breath holding and i run alot. both have helped me a great deal
The above answers are really good. Another thing that might help is to actually reduce your oxygen consumption for the period you are under. The legs have very big muscle groups so try to relax them quite deliberately. Practice lowering your pulse rate and relaxing/loosening everything as much as possible. This can be done both by meditation and also by doing underwater laps along the floor of the pool
Dont know.I cant swim and panic when my head goes under.
