I put shock in the skimmer like you were supposed to and everything was fine. Can you backwash the filter almost right after you put the shock in the skimmer? or will that backwash all of the shock? thanks
Please don't put shock in the skimmer anymore. This is VERY hard on the pump. You'll be fine with what you have done now, but from now on go ahead and dissolve it in a bucket of pool water and then pour it in around the perimeter of the pool.
As mentioned, you will want to backwash prior to making chemical adjustments of any kind. This just ensures you keep the chemicals in the pool instead of washing them out the waste line.

You need to backwash the filter BEFORE adding shock- at least that's what my shock bottle says to do.
