What is the ideal body type for a male competitive swimmer? |
What is the ideal body type for a male competitive swimmer? Typically, the most aware coaches select for endurance sports, the body types that are suited to endurance sports. The same can be said for power sports as well as strength. Consider that the quarterback is typically the leanest and fastest team member. You won't find many slender linebackers. So, the ideal type to swim and win is the lean, slender type -- can be muscled or not. More likely taller than not. Generally: Ectomorph: Lean and long, often skinny. Mesomorph: Lean and medium, densely muscled. Endomorph: Fatty and round, underdeveloped muscle. The classic Ectomorph or Mesomorph, or a combination, is the swimming winner. Endomorphs CAN compete, it's just a fight to keep ahead of the weight, which is the enemy of speed in the water. Heavier males are suited to powerlifting, wrestling, football, and more. A GOOD coach will listen carefully and honor your interest in sports and tell you straight up if yours is a realistic choice or not. I'm a classic ecto-mesomorph, and am well-suited to gymnastics, swimming, even running, and have done all. Hope this helped... :) http://www.betterbodyjournal.com/diet-an... Source(s): Multiple Certified Fitness Trainer and Professional Nutrition Consultant Well I can't use fancy words, but against the best guys in the southeast.... tall, skinny, but with good shoulders. The height gives the swimmer extra reach so they can pull more water and being skinny helps make staying stream line easier.... and well the shoulders do ALOT of work in swimming. 10 years in the sport |
