my right arm is damaged for life and now i came to a conclusion to play with my left. what are teh benefits of playing with a left? i heard leftys hit harder and put more spin on the ball. also now that i am starting from scratch to play left handed what exercises can i do to make my left hand more dominant because right now i cant throw a ball. When you use your left hand you can hit the ball harder sometimes and it aims better, too. I'm just a beginner at tennis but I'm pretty sure this works...I've seen my tennis teacher do it. Source(s): Tennis lessons. When you play left handed your cross shot lands in the backhand of the opposing player so giving you an edge in the point. I don't know if i can name 10 but being left handed is really good cause your opponent isn't used to the direction you will hit the ball. As a lefty, you are best able to attack a righty's backhand. Put heavy sidespin and topspin cross court on the ball on baseline forehands, making it very difficult for your opponent to return on his backhand. Also, on serving, you can put sidespin onto the serves to serve the ball away from the person and to the backhand side. It's not so much as putting more spin on the ball but a different kind of spin that the opponent is used to, e.g. instead of the ball naturally swerving to the right, a left handed shot would make it swerve left, and that will confuse opponents. This is especially true on serve. Also there's a great weapon for lefties: slice serve from the ad court, the ball would slide even farther on the opponent's backhand and produce a weak return. |
