What is a different between "top spin" shot and "flat" shot? |
I heard that Nadal has a lot of top spin and Venus have little top spin. I don't know what that mean. Can you explain me with 2007 wimbledon Matches? Top spin is shot that bounces off the court usually shoulder to head high with lot of spins on the ball toward you.....these types of shot are generally slower than "flat shot" since they are spinning on the air quite a bit....the higher it bounces, the harder to return a good shot because of the spins it generated.....the idea is to return it early where there is less top spin....extreme western grip required for this type of topspin which Nadal uses, this grip resulted in lot of racket "hooking motions".....wimbledon grass court is a very fast surface suitable for "flat shot" player like federer and Venus....top spin generally wont work well because the ball just gonna spin up there in the air and the pros are good enough to tee off on it....fereder and venus types of player used eastern and semi western grips which provide flatter shot with less motion on the ball.....these shots travel fast and even faster on fast surface like Wimbledon....the point is, OVERPOWERED..... nadals hands rotate over the ball when he hits it. this causes the ball to curve and take a jump when it hits the ground on his opponents side. venus hits it flat, meaning that she doesnt roll her hands over, but has them square at impact with the ball. the ball will go lower and will tend to catch the net more than a top spin. Backspin shots tend to sit or slow very much when they hit the ground Top spin give you more of an arch and flat is a shot very low to the net. Flater shot usually have more pace than a top spin shots. That's so easy. top spin is a reainbow like shot while flat barely passes the net but with real power lets put it easily this way ya... wimbledon 2007---lotsa top spin shots wimbledon 1970---lotsa flat shots flat and topspin majorly deals with how the ball is hit, and the movement of the racket head... flat...is like how the 50's, 60's,70's players used to play...one smooth motion with the racket head 90 degrees to the surface...balls hit with flat shot have much more pace compared to top spin shots...and the balls usually travel at a straight line top spin....player racket head is = to the surface..parallel to the surface...player then "covers" the ball with the rackets swing...in turn giving the ball some added "spin"...balls hit with top spin...travel at an arch and bounces off high upon contact with the surface top spin shots are much more consistent as the ball always dips in... rafa nadal is the best example of top spin shots...very few men actually hit flat shots these days...best example would be james blake...with his power thru forehands... hope this was helpful for ya...cheers mate |
