Platini already said that he'll make some changes in the coming CL season. only the top three clubs from European top leagues ( the EPL, La Liga, Seri A, BundesLiga) to make way for the other minnow leagues.. what are your thoughts about this? do u think it's good or bad? Its a bad thing..We could end up with the isle of man fielding a team.. Platini is such an @$$.. he sucked as a player... what did he ever win... my best memory of him is launching a PK over the net against Brasil. he shud leave it the way it was I think there will be an out-cry from some teams in the major leagues. Imagine if Liverpool finished 4th, how they would moan, and how much money would they loose. But why would Platini want a `tiny` team that no one has ever heard of, rather than a team like Liverpool? Yes! It is a way of sharing the huge pot of money around, but he has to realise that the big teams, spend a big amount of money to generate UEFA's money in the first place. The ECL was expanded in the first place to generate cash, and to give smaller teams the extra impetus to finish in the top four. Glory! Glory! im gona chop him if he does.. you all seem to forget that this should be a football competion and not a money competion(which sadly it is now),why have 4 teams from one country..only 1 can win! if you were to pick who can enter football tournaments on the basis that their "BIG" teams then the likes of Denmark and Greece wouldnt have won the Euro championship..arent these nations minnows compared to ....England! I love the premiership but I do think 4 is too many, If they made this 2 from every league it would give teams like bolton, newscastle, everton and spurs the chance to finish 3rd or 4th as (in this year) liverpool and arsenal would not qualify and hence lose money and become unable to attract the bigger players giving these other teams a chance. however it would mean Man u and cheslea winning the top 2 position for the next decade. also 4th place are hardly "champions" in a champions league. maybe they should chnage the name to champions/runner up 3rd or 4th league competition. Its a good idea and would bring the competition closer to being a true Champion's League. However, the Group of 14 (the group composed of many of the top teams from the top leagues) was the driving force behind the current setup. The Group of 14 has essentially been blackmailing UEFA (and their domestic leagues) with the threat to walk form their own independent "super league." If these teams (the Manchester Uniteds, Bayern Munichs, Real Madrids, Barcelonas, etc.) were to walk, the fear is that the golden goose that is the Champion's League would be killed. So UEFA gives the group just enough of what it wants to keep the peace. As such Plantini's idea is DOA. |
