When playing volleyball, who is supposed to take the 2nd hit?

After the ball is served over the net and bumped on your side, who should take the second hit? Is it always the setter that needs to take the second hit (unless they call help) or is it the player the ball is closest to? Example. The ball is bumped and it goes to the back left corner. Should the player in the back left corner take it, or is it still technically the setters ball unless he calls for help?

The setter should take the second hit if he or she can get to it depending on the pass. A good team mate would know if the setter was unable to get to it and would call it. However, it's hard to find a good team mate unless they really know how the game is played.

The setter ALWAYS gets the second ball unless they call for help. Bump, SET, Spike!
the setter should always get the second hit if its possible. that way they can set the offensive hitters ready. the setter should set to your outside hitter and kill it. now, if its just ridiculously out of range for the setter to get to, then whoever is there that can make a clean set/pass to the front row should take it. the ideal situation is for the first hit to go cleanly to the setter, and then the setter sets, but from the example above, i think that the back row person should hit it. =] hope this helps.
the setter should take the 2nd hit unless they call help or unless the ball is coming directly at another player and there isn't enough time for them to move out of the way and for the setter to get there.
The setter should call for help if she or he can not reach it but otherwise the person who has first bump should pass it to the setter and then when she sets it to the third person the third hit should be able to come to a spike or something so it gets over the net
