I'm going to be a blocker in v-ball next season and i need exercises to help build my leg strength.? * tread water * heel raises (against a wall, good for calves) * wall jumps (good for quads, calves and your vertical) try to jump higher every time you try. * squats (pretty basic) * wall sits (can be a toughy. work your way up, keep your back against the wall and your legs at a 90 degree angle to the wall. Don't cheat!) * biking (an enjoyable way to work your quads! Source(s): ~club and varsity player~ heel raises help build your calves and increase your vertical. some weight rooms have machines for the exercise, but its just as easy to do it on stairs or street curbs or anything of that sort. hit the weights 3-4 times a week. Run 3-4 miles a day do more squats (considered as the king of leg exercise!). it builds and strengthen your quads. heel raise adds more bounce and explosive power. and you also need to strengthen your abs (sit ups with weight plates) and back muscles (back arch with weight plates) so that you can hang in the air much longer. believe me, upper body strength is very important!! hope this helps. cheers! trained full time as a volleyball player for 9 years. now, i only play for fun and it sucks not being able to jump as high as i used to :P Running won't do you any good, volleyball is not an aerobic sport! Squats can help build strength, but explosive action in your jump is much more important than how much weight you squat (fast-twitch muscles vs. slow-twitch). Watch some beach volleyball on TV if you can, you will see what they do is get VERY low and then explode with their jump. |
