Beginner in skimming. Can skim for short distance, but then board just stops.?

I'm a beginner in skimboarding. I just figured out how to slide with the board, but I never go far. The skimboard always stops and I fly out.
I also can't seem to go into the ocean. I can go straight on the shore, but not into the water where waves are.
Can anyone help me?

Your probably stopping because you are throwing the board too late so when the sand dries the skimboard stops because it can't slide anymore. try throwing the board when your in about 1 and 1/2 inches of water.

yep i agree with the other guy you are probably running out of water but as to the wave question you probabl dont have enough speed or a high enough quality board
