there are no spots on any soccer ball, they are pentagons and hexagons. Spots are round.

There are 32 panels on a normal size 5 football(soccer ball).
If by "spots" you mean panels, then yes, there are usually 32, but the old ones that look like modern volleyballs had 18. There was even a 6 panel ball out a few years ago, and the statement about the new official World Cup ball having 8 seems correct. (Both the 6 and 8 were/are made by Adidas, btw! Go Adidas!!)
Sometimes children without a ball have been known to construct a ball out of old plastic trash bags (Pele & co.) Also, balls have been made out of goat/sheep bladders, stuffed with various materials, and I would think that ball only had one panel!
