Any remedies out there for a teen girls soccer knee injurys? swelling & pain? |
My 13 daughter is a very avid soccer player (7yrs) who is complaining about her knee. It swells up & has pain in it after she runs or performs heavy exercising (from school). She is getting ready to start this years soccer season. I am concerned about this & her doctor said nothing was wrong. Any advice out there or experience with this type of responce from medical experts? My daughter had the same thing at the age of 13. In my opinion your daughter is at the vital age of a growing spurt. Make sure your daughter is not overplaying. my daughter ended having 3 knee ops at the age of 14. Rest is the best result . Physicians don't know everything. That's why they call it medical PRACTICE. They learn as they go. At any rate, alternate hot and cold packs for 15 minutes each when the swelling is present. This is what my doc recommended when I injured my back and it actually helps. This should help ease the pain and swelling. THEN get her to an acute care agency or an orthopedic physician while the swelling is present so they can actually see what's happening. I have been playing soccer for about 15 years and I have had my share of injury's. First of all if the whole knee is swollen and she can't walk she needs to go to the doctor to get and MRI. If its just the lower part of the knew it might be tendinitis and there are straps that you can put on your knee so that the pain isn't so much. Take 1 ibuprofin, should bring the swelling down, before any type of exercise and icy hot can help. You should also get her checked by another doctor for a full complete answer to her problems. the same thing happened to a teamate of mine and you should let her take a break doing to much can really screw with your body rest it ice it and so she can play put a brace on it Aside from proper disgnosis through an MRI or repair via surgery, proper training habits are the key. You should focus on rehabbing the knee and strengthening it before going into full match play. this has happend to me many times give it time hav her go out and dribble & it will soon fell better |
