  • Question:
One of my dreams is to learn to summer so this summer I'm set out to go do it. How hard is it surf? Like im not saying huge waves like atleast stand on the board and surf small waves?

    Answer:
how hard is it to surf well or just stand up on a wave? if you learn to surf at a surf school you'll probably be able to stand up on small waves your first day. but actually surfing is a way of life more than anything else. you continually learn new things and gain a greater respect for yourself and your fellow surfers.

If you want to surf good it's the hardest sport on earth to learn it.

=P duh how hard is it? Well it's harder than it looks. Sure if you go to those surf schools you probably learn how to stand on your board but that's about it.... after all it's all about style the motion in the ocean and that can only learned after years and years of daily surfing and even then the learning never ceases. =P

not too bad.. just get someone else to push you onto waves if your having trouble catching the wave by yourself. Get a long foam board and some small waves and after some practice you'll be catching waves. Surfing does require some balance skills though so if your really uncoordinated it might be a little tough to get the "stand up" part of surfing down.

relax. be aware of who's around you. have fun. even if you spend the first couple times just flopping around and attempting make it a good day. don't leave angry. just enjoy yourself don't think too much into it. it'll come with time. good luck =)

It is very hard to Surf you will need very strong legs!

Farking extremely hard man!!!!! but it all practice

p.s dont bother with the foam boards they have no grip and u slip off!!!

When you first start out. Try medium size waves. Don't try too small waves or else you won't get better. Try medium and just ride the wave straight DON'T DO ANY TURNS!! You will fall if it is your first. Try and surf away from rocks to cause if you fall on them it KILLS!!!

    HAVE FUN

It's harder than it looks. For your first board get a nice and tough soft-top longboard. Try to go to a local surf and see if they givve lessons.

It all depends on YOU. It can be really fun if you enjoy being in the water and can swim well etc. If you have a fear of water it can be a rather frightening experience. From experience Surfing is incredibly frustrating at first because your still getting you balance working out which way works best Goofy or Natural and all that stuff. If you have a friend or family member who knows how to surf who can go with you that would be exceptionally helpful for you. Getting tips from experienced surfers on standing and getting good balance is the key. All in all Yes it is hard But trust me After your first wave you will be absolutely hooked. You'll want to do it everyday! Its like everything it just takes a little getting used to. Getting surf lessons is great too or having group lessons is super fun. Get out there and have fun! Its a great summer sport and way to keep fit.

Learning to surf is more than just standing up on a surfboard. If you are going to surf you should be a competent ocean swimmer. Not just good in a pool but able to swim in the surf and when the undertow and rips are strong.
Once you get that far I would recommend some surf lessons. Go to a REAL surf shop (not a bathing suit store that sells some surfboards). The folks there will rent you a board and hook you up with some lessons. If you are fairly athletic with okay balance you will learn how to stand up fairly easily. Much more important is for you to learn surf etiquette. A good instructor will make sure you understand the "rules" so that everybody else in the water doesn't want to kill you before you get good at surfing.
It is not hard to learn to surf but it is important to learn all the elements. Learn how to handle yourself in the ocean. We don't want the beach patrol and Coast Guard searching for your body. Learn the mechanics of surfing and most importantly learn surf etiquette.
I have been surfing for over forty years (some days anymore I really suck) but it is the greatest stoke there is. Everybody should have an opportunity to share the ocean. Go for it you can do it.
