>> Missed the big Park(ing) Day news? L.A.’s getting a brand new 24/7 park at the corner of Wilshire and Vermont! Oh okay — So the “new park” is more wishful thinking from the “Department of DIY” (the people behind DIY bike lanes) than actual city planning at the moment but really why DON’T we have an always-open park in a well-trafficked area of L.A. that offers a farmers market community gardens bike service and even AA meetings? Dan Koeppel has the full text of the sign.

>> Many other Park(ing) Day participants also re-visioined the city. Elise Thompson at LAist has cute photos of green company Osborn Architects’ “Dream(ing) on Brand” park with its floaty cows in an urban meadow a “radical intervention that represents the potential at hand for quieter more pastoral encounters with urban public space.”
>> For more pictures: Curbed LA has visual proof of what L.A. architects and designers did with parking spots. LAist has photos of a Studio City park that offered free vegan food.
>> Damien at Streetsblog LA has details from the Park(ing) Day Bike Ride which hit “thirteen spaces in our over forty-mile ride that began in Culver City swung through Santa Monica and ended in the Downtown.”
>> In other cycling news: One Amanda Abrams from Washington D.C. had the ovaries to bike her way around L.A. during her visit to our sprawly city (via Re-Nest). She discovers the unfriendliness of neighborhoods built for cars the friendly activism of the Bicycle Kitchen and more:
Despite some trepidation about the first major road I encountered safety it turned out wasn’t a big issue: Drivers were nowhere near as aggressive as I’d feared. And even the heat could be waited out for an hour or two.
