let's start with yesterday afternoon.
I ventured out into the real world. big news for someone in a lockdown situation. the stadium has become my new coffee shop--the place I go to think.
I'm not the only one.
see that guy with the crazy tennis swing? he was serious. I could tell when he walked out wearing 5 sweat bands....on each arm.
but...I should know better than to "think" in public here.
it wasn't long before this kid climbed up the stairs and sat right behind me:
freshman yan: excuse me? can we have a chat?
me: sure!
the next 2 hours were filled with lots of pauses confused looks and whispering (he repeated everything I said). his english is....poor.
he kept trying to speak to me in chinese.
I. can't. speak. chinese.
he would ask me "skjoiejrhoiht?" (chinese) and then say "you know?" and I would pretend: "yep!"
haha.
this is how our conversation ended:
freshman yan: maybe I will call you sometime.
me: ok.
freshman yan: no I WILL call you.
I've already ignored two calls.
sorry. but how are we ever going to communicate over the PHONE?!
I eventually had time to think....but it was in my own room.
I have now finished 2 journals since arriving in august. yesterday I got to start a new one:

most of you are familiar with my love of sugary treats but I am also obsessed with pandas.
seriously. I love them.
I have a panda sketch pad.
a panda keychain.
a panda poster.
and even panda post-it notes.
now it makes a little more sense why I loved the panda couples shirts so much.

hmmm.
we tried to skype with the group this morning. but we couldn't see them or hear them. it was depressing.
then we got to see them for a few seconds.
aww. I miss them. every time they talked though it sounded like "mwaaaaaaooooooghhhhhheeeeeewooooooo"
I couldn't translate.
tim and I went to the caf. for lunch. it was raining which means my life was in danger the second I stepped outside. because i always slip. a lot.
tim snapped this shot of me seconds after my foot slipped out from under me and my shoe got caught in the side of the stairs. and yes that is my former student trying to get around me. how lame can a situation be?
had dinner with my faves.
then a little shopping adventure.
I spotted canadian mounties at the campus store. it made me think of joel and jackie. especially since they're spending the week in canada. aww. I miss you guys.
and now a glimpse at how kendra and cynthia study english: a scene from Friends.
kendra: usually 1edI'm rachel.
cynthia: and I'm ross.
kendra (pointing to me): maybe next time you can be the phoebe.
