Rio de Janeiro State of Rio de Janeiro Brazil

Just as a precurso to unfolding events ... we're only into day 3/4 and I'm already getting confused with my days - so future entries might not be dated - we'll see.

Anyway ... back to the matters at hand (I'll try to keep this brief-ish). Yesterday day 4 after internetting it up below the dodgy shop we bought ourselves food in the supermarket type place. Food consisted of chicken tomato sauce stuff pack of random veg a huge portion of watermelon and a bottle of drink which after drinking some straight from the bottle discovered that one is supposed to dilute 1:9 - not very nice (even when diluted). After a snacky lunch we headed off to find the Corcovada where the Redeemer Christ is located via bus. The hostess at the hostel seemed a little surprised maybe even concerned. After getting off the bus at the other end and looking very confused we were directed by several locals who probably thought we were muppets to the tram which took us the top of the Corcovada - muy mucho huge. By the time we reached the top the light drizzle at the base of the mountain had turned to full blown hurricane and blizzard but we did manage to breath taking glimpses of the scenery below between the swathes of cloud and rain. We still counted it a worthwhile experience although it would probably have been about 6.243 million times better on a sunny day. The rest of the day passed without incident except for the undiluted juice stuff. It was our last night at Brazil Hostel.

Today day 5 we moved out of Brazil hostel and took the bus huge backpacks in toe to Copacbana where we located our new hostel Che Lagarto. This hostel seems a lot more together in terms of its facilities and procedures - more efficient and corporate - less relaxed and bohemian (and pricier - but we're only here for one night). Once booking in we headed to the beach. The whole area seems more posh than previous area and has lost some of the scariness of our first encounter. We had a huge lunch for about £2 each. We ticked off another thing off our Avis list of 'must tries' - Açai - tasty fruit smoothy type thingy. We've got people waiting to have a go on the only working computer at the hostel (the one we're on!) so I'll keep the rest brief ... highlights included many men in speedos people playing football tennis over  a volleyball net on the beach huge huge waves people doing grafitti on beach wall looking up streets and seeing mountains at the end with houses climbing half way up big bottom pants (padded) man playing keepy-uppies with an egg a coconut and a tiny pea (very amazing)...there may be more but that's all we have time for.

We have a queue building - see you next time!
