One of the reasons I'm not blogging so much anymore is that EVERY SINGLE TIME I come onto the internet and take a look around I end up screaming in frustration and wanting to beat my head against a brick wall.
As I told Frally on Friday night ALL THE STUPID PEOPLE HAVE DISCOVERED THE INTERNET.

The internet used to be pretty cool. Only those with a couple of brain cells to rub together were able to figure out how to use it and so it therefore used to be reasonably intelligent. Not so now. I'm forever shaking my head at the awfully stupid misogynistic violent racist and above all NON-CONSIDERATE opinions that are just about everywhere these days. I try to go by the old mother's maxim of "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" but it seems all of the stupid people on the internet didn't get that old mother's memo.
One issue that never fails to get me upset these days is whenever there's a discussion or news article (which these days usually includes readers' comments at the end) about cycling.
I'm not a cyclist myself but I think that cycling should be encouraged not discouraged in every single way possible. I've spent weeks in the orthopaedic ward at the hospital visiting my husband when he got hit by a car - his wardmates included several cyclists who were hit by cars. It's not pretty and it shouldn't be happening.
If I'm out driving and I see a cyclist I SLOW DOWN. I keep an eye out for them. I make sure I'm considerate and give them as wide a berth as I can. Does this upset me? No. Does it take me longer to get to where I'm going? No. Does the very sight of a cyclist turn me into a stark raving homicidal maniac? Well no. But it apparently turns others into one.
The comments I read are bewildering and simply heartbreaking. "GET OFF THE ROADS!" "Roads are for cars!" "Bloody cyclists!" "Cyclists don't pay registration they shouldn't be on the road!" "Cyclists all break the road rules!" "Cyclists annoy the hell out of my big fat arse because they look better in lycra than I do so therefore I'm going to run them off and the road and KILL THEM!!"
Honestly what is it about some people? Cyclists are doing us all a favour. If every cyclist were in a car instead of on their bike our roads would be more congested. Our air would be more polluted. Our hospitals would be full of more obese diabetic asthmatic fat arsed people who get angry if they have to walk for more than about 20 metres in a row. (Of course they hospitals may have less cyclists in their othopaedic wards but possibly these beds would be filled with more angry car drivers who are now forced to carry out their congested-road-induced road rage on their fellow car drivers - possibly those ones going 49km in a 50kmh zone).
I've said this before but if I had my way I'd do anything possible to discourage private car use - I'd make petrol much more expensive for private cars (although cheaper for buses and taxis so as to encourage their use). I'd make the centres of our towns and cities pedestrian only precincts. I'd make car parking charges pretty exorbitant (more than they are now). I'd build great big red coloured cycleways everywhere and like in Europe the cars would have to give way to the bikes.
Sigh... my utopia is looking pretty damned good in my own little world.
All you stupid people reading this (oh gawd for some reason I have Beyonce's "Single Ladies" running through my head but with the lyrics changed to "189All you stupid people") can now beat your own heads against your own personal brick walls at my "stupidity". Go on beat a little harder.
