  • Sure I am this day we are masters of our fate that the task which has been set before us is not above our strength;
    that its pangs and toils are not beyond our endurance.
    As long as we have faith in our own cause and an unconquerable will to win
    victory will not be denied us.”
    Winston Churchill

    So yesterday was blog action day and the cause was climate change. Now most days I am either riding high on the wave of optimism that yes there is hope for this god forsaken planet if we just pull together and work together to do what is necessary..."yes we can" overcome the vast problems that threaten our very existence...to feeling like there is absolutely no hope...and no hope because there are people customs and power in place that impedes any hope...basically we are all a bunch of lily livered self centred individuals who when you just get down to it don't care a rat's ass about nobody but ourselves or the immediate people that belong to ourselves.

    Lately I have been trying to limit the hopelessness and so I do things that hopefully take my mind off the negative...and since I think who the hell wants to join in the negativity I don't even do a post...mostly I just fill my time watching reruns of Malcolm in the Middle. But since I signed up for this blog action day and since it was yesterday and since yesterday was Theme Thursday I committed meself to posting today and since today I am not too dam optimistic...I am going to just let it rip...

    So here we are...the planet warming faster than the new glass top stove that was just bought over a month ago...now this being the first glass topped stove I have had I just have to ask...do they all heat up slower than a 35 year old harvest gold model with worn out burners? But I digress...glaciers are melting the seas are rising the bugs are eating up every pine tree in British Columbia and have now crossed the Rockies and not only are they headed across across Canada but are flying over the pole to Russia! And that is not all Dust storms droughts floods...ecosystems gone mad!!

    But then we all know this. The alarm has been sounded. Anyone who is older than 30 probably have lived long enough to see feel and touch the changes in the whole ball of wax. So what is the problem? Why aren't we doing something? Anything to stop the madness?

    Well you know I think it is just a dream right now...something that seems like a good idea at the time but you know a whole lot of work or money to implement the changes that need to be implemented to make a difference. Yup we are lazy. Not only are we lazy but most of us are whores to self indulgence...we don't like being uncomfortable we like our indulgences we like eating farmed salmon we like having our heat not too cold or not too hot. We like the convenience of our 4 car family or the peace of mind of our gigantic house in the suburb we like being able to jet off when and where we want.

    And then there is the thought that we are not the problem...nooooo it is those guys over there...and somehow we think it is ok with us to have the lifestyle that we have but not so right if others do...

    Of course too with the battle that should be waged but isn't is the fact that so many think that it is not a problem...that it is a natural phenomenon and something that no matter what we do will happen anyway so why stop the party now? And you know they just could be right...when studying ancient civilizations experts have found that in most cases the reasons for their collapse is because they overran the capacity of the environment. Time and time again mother nature ensured the survival of the ecosystem by killing off the human civilization. Easter Island Mesopotamia Machu Pichu are just some.

    So today when I am going downhill through a chicken yard of negativity I have to say who gives a rat's ass if we melt the icecaps which will then kiss goodbye to the polar bears and the penguins? No Salmon or bears tough shit for them. Oh well nice knowing you frogs and toads and salamanders and turtles tootle loo! But what is really disturbing me is the fact that I like to have some fricken real maple syrup on my pancakes and if we keep this nonsense up for very much longer what the hell will I use?

    Now is this a little self centred? dam straight it is. And that is my point. Deep down we are all just a bunch of self centred individuals. So forget about trying to get us all working together for the good of the other animals or other people or the planet...noooo that is just too big we need to just get everyone working individually on making changes so they can continue to have what they most desire.

    Like to ski? Well if you don't make some changes you can kiss goodbye to snow skiing. Like to fish well what are you going to do to ensure that there is still fish. Like to visit Australia...well hell better get to work mate before it burns or blows away.

    Yes we are a little people who are only capable of doing little things. Big ideas for the big picture just make us uncomfortable after all when doing things for every body's good...somebody that we don't like or don't agree with their life style or their beliefs just might benefit and since we are not only selfish but spiteful to boot we would rather bite off our nose to spite ourselves than see them benefit.

    So I say to hell with the planet to hell with doing anything good for any other reason than doing good so you will prosper and in the case of climate change prospering just might mean living...forget about worrying what anybody else is doing...just remember in the end it is only you that matters...for in the end the planet will go on without you.

    It is not necessary to change.
    Survival is not mandatory.
    - W. Edwards Deming
