  • Or rather the lack of it. Training load over the last few months had been pathetic but then again there is really nothing much for me to train towards as I had given up the hope of doing an Ironman race by next year. Many factors but mainly its got a lot to do with $$ and time. And so I found myself in a goal-less situation just trying to maintain my fitness at a minimal level. There is the marathon at the end of the year but I can't seem to find the right motivation to train hard for that. It would definitely be a struggle even to try and beat last year's time.

I have been enjoying footie with my team for the past few weeks. I must say I really enjoyed the games. The downside is that soccer is a contact sport and high impact so I get a lot of aches and pains all over after every game and will need at least a day of rest to recover. Its also taking a toll on my knee as the pain came back. It always seems to be the case where if I needed to run and ride a lot I would have to stop footie. Vice versa. Will stop the games for now as I train for the marathon. Not decided if I should play footie anymore.

A summary of some of the training sessions I did over the last 2 weeks. Not a lot to log actually.

Today's long run at ECP. Struggled to complete 30km but I was really glad I managed to do it after last week's failed attempt. Weather was extremely hot and I got tired very soon. In fact I was wondering how I would be able to get back to Fort Rd after I made the U turn at the 15km mark at Changi Coastal Rd.

Did a double session. Started with a short and hard run in the morning then a swim in the evening. Did 40 laps slow and east pace. Surprisingly I did not feel any strain despite not swimming at all for at least 2 or 3 weeks already.

Short ride to Changi Coastal Rd and back. Forgot to charge my 405 so there are no log for the ride. Started really slowly as my aim was just to get some cycling form back. Like swimming I have not had any workouts in a few weeks. Only speed up and pushed myself when I realised I had completely miscalculated the time and was going to be very late for dinner at my in-laws :P

Medium distance run around my estate. Brought out my trusty old Nike Pegasus as I had forgotten to lace up the NB 1063. I had wanted to toss it after last year's marathon but couldn't bear to do it so I kept it. When the Ironman 70.3 came in March I took her out and completed the race with her again. I thought that was the end of our relationship but I decided to keep her just in case. Then came the OSIM Triathlon. I took her out compared her to the Saucony that I had at that time and went for her. It got really muddy and dirty after the race but I washed her and kept her again. So this is the first time I had seen her in a few months. The moment I put her on I could feel the same familiar comfort that she brings to my feet. They felt so much lighter and I could feel the bounce in every step. Even thought the cushion should have been long worn by now I couldn't really care less.

She proved to me how reliable she was again when I managed to complete this run with such respectable time. I am quite sure with the NB 1063 I would have struggled. With her I feel strong running again.

I made up my mind to get a new pair of Nike Pegasus. It would be the 3rd pair that I will own. Its in the 26th generation now and I have no idea which generation mine was. She should be a great great great great grandmother now.

Long run at ECP. Didn't train at all the previous few days as I was down with a mild flu on Monday. I made sure I was well rested and had recovered fully before attempting any exercise this time. Last year's experience was really quite an experience.

I actually did 29km in total but I was really struggling at the 25th km I just stopped to walk. Stopped the timer as I couldn't face the reality of not being able to complete a run the need to stop to walk. The sun was scorching and it was so bloody hot I really regretted not starting the run earlier. I walked for about 200m then stopped at a toilet to refill my bottle from the tap and then carried on running again. Managed to finish the rest of the run at a slow slow pace.

Long run around my estate. Ran towards Punggol Marina and Punggol end again. Those quiet roads are so nice and shady. Some parts are pretty scary though as there are many stray dogs in the area and you have to be on the look out not to disturb them else they will come chasing after you. The couple of upslopes can be daunting when you are really tired too but its more interesting than just doing flats all the time.
